Nudist Mothers and Daughters Free From Body Issues Guest blog by: Isis Phoenix Paradise. Absolute Paradise. Those were the only words when thinking back on my day at Rock Lodge nudist club that were adequate to describe my experience and all in a brief visit to this magical sanctuary. “Packing light?” my husband joked with me as I put my sarong, towel and hat in my canvas beach bag. Conspicuously missing a swimsuit, I smiled. I had wanted to visit Rock Lodge all summer – a nudist paradise – beautiful lake, scenic hiking trails, wildlife and nature in abundance and ... Read more
Civil Rights Complaint Filed Against Ocean City For Topfree Ordinance On January 16, I, along with Chelsea Covington and three other women filed a civil rights complaint against Ocean City, Maryland for its ordinance banning topfreedom for women. We are represented by civil rights attorney Devon M. Jacob. If you follow my blog or topfree news, you may remember that Ocean City passed their “emergency ordinance” last June after the media alerted everyone to the fact that there was no existing law against topfreedom. Not only was there no local ordinance, but the state of Maryland doesn’t have any existing ... Read more
Nudism Behavior Etiquette and Guide For Men On How To Avoid Being Labeled A Nudist Creep Nudism Behavior Etiquette – Last year, I published a blog about gender and harassment issues in naturism. As a continuation of this topic, I thought we should delve further into nudist behavioral guidelines and how not to be “creepy” in naturist or social nude settings. Can We Define The Term “Creepy”? What does it mean to be “creepy”? There has actually been very little scientific research into this question. But last year a new study was published by researchers at Knox College called “On the nature ... Read more
Maryland Attorney General Supports Discriminatory Topless Laws But This Is Not Over On June 14, the Maryland Attorney General’s Office (OAG) issued a “letter of advice” about women’s topfreedom in Maryland. It came out just a few days after the town of Ocean City, MD passed an “emergency” ordinance that outlawed women from going topfree in public. This letter arrives 10 months after the OAG had received the request for an opinion on this subject. And still, they say this is not their “official opinion.” As Chelsea Covington, the activist at the forefront of the battle for women’s topfreedom rights ... Read more
Ocean City Deems Topfreedom “Unpalatable” and Unsuitable For Families Updates since this article was published: In June of 2017, the Maryland Attorney General’s Office came out with their “unofficial” opinion on the topfreedom issue, and it wasn’t good. Read the follow-up blog. January 2018: Chelsea Covington, Felicity and three other women filed a civil rights complaint against Ocean City for its discriminatory topless ordinance. Last week, news came out that topfreedom was allowed, or more precisely, not outlawed, for women at Ocean City beach in Maryland. This was after three women were recently seen sunbathing topfree, and word got out ... Read more
Ideas and Solutions For Attracting More Women To Nudism I’ve talked about how and why nudism has a woman / gender imbalance problem. Now it’s time to talk solutions. What can we do about it? How can we attract more women to naturism? I’ve got a few ideas. Providing A Safe Environment In my last post about harassment and issues with male behavior, I brought up some do’s and don’ts for ensuring a safer nudist environment for women. Let’s go over those do’s and don’ts again with some additional points. DO’s For Nudists, Nudist Resort Owners and Club Leaders: – Have ... Read more
Nudism & Gender Issues: Let’s Talk About Safety and Harassment It was good to see that my last article about naturism and single male policies generated a lot of discussion on our website and on social media. It seems like most people actually agreed with us that naturism should be inclusive rather than exclusive. I’d added a poll at the end of my article asking if nudist resorts, clubs, groups, etc should restrict entry to single men in order to have a better gender ratio. Out of over 400 votes, the overwhelming majority – nearly 80% — said “No.” Twelve ... Read more
Interview With Chelsea, Topfreedom Activist & Author of the “Breasts Are Healthy” Blog Update 2018: Since this interview was published, I have joined Chelsea and three other women in filing a civil rights complaint against Ocean City, Maryland for their discriminatory topfree ordinance that went into effect last year. I will continue to post major updates to this site as the case progresses. To learn more about Chelsea and her activism, read on to our interview below! Topfreedom is technically legal for women in most U.S. states and in many big cities. This is often due to the absence of any written ... Read more
Why Aren’t There More Women In Nudism / Naturism Today? It’s no secret to most in the naturist community that naturism has a lady problem. While men tend to flock far more easily to social nudity, as though it’s their life calling to be naked, women tend to be far less open to the experience. While it does vary from place to place, in the U.S., men tend to outnumber women at naturist events, nudist resorts and clubs. NY Laws On Topfreedom, False Arrests and Topfree Equality in NYC Like many U.S. anti-nudity laws, New York’s “Exposure of a person” law — Penal Code 245.01 — includes the female nipple when describing body parts that aren’t allowed to be shown / exposed in public. (With the exception of public breastfeeding.) HOWEVER, this part of the law was nullified in 1992 by the NY Court of Appeals ruling in People v. Santorelli. Ever since then, it has been legal for women to go topless in public wherever men can. Topfree Equality in New York (Photo in Central Park, NYC) ... Read more
